Pressure cookers have been around for a very long time – some 300+ years in fact. Only in recent years, though, have they vaulted into extreme popularity. We won’t bore you with the physics of how they work, just know this – and you probably already did – they speed up the cooking process. Another fun fact: they also use a lot less energy. But, you didn’t come here for that.
The world is a fast moving place, particularly during the work week. The thought of cooking during the week can be an immediate morale crusher for the busy parent with multiple mouths to feed. However, I think we can all agree that stopping by the Grab ‘N Go or corner fast food establishment isn’t a very good solution either. Dining at more traditional restaurants can run up expenses in a hurry. These external forces have been a catalyst for the rise of the Instant Pot, a do-everything pressure cooker that can save the day (or maybe just dinner!).
The list of what can’t be done in these handy little devices is probably shorter than what we can do with them. They combine the functions of multiple devices, creating a one-stop-shop for a variety of needs. The technology has also become extremely user-friendly with some dishes simply needing a touch of button, the top secured, and some minutes later you have dinner. See a sample button panel below that looks a lot like the one in our kitchen.
There are a lot of pressure cookers on the market so we encourage you to do your research. This will ensure you make the right purchase for you should you decide to dabble in the world of pressure cooking. And, as we disclosed at the top of the page, if you decide the Instant Pot is right for you the affiliate link below will earn us a small commission. But, you can rest well knowing ours gets a lot of miles and we simply want to share the love.
Lastly, don’t worry, we aren’t abandoning conventional cooking methods or tossing out our pot and pan collection. We just wanted to give you a peek at one item that has made our lives easier and some (amazing) dinners in a pinch.
This is the model we use for all of our Instant Pot recipes:
