Growing up many moons ago we went to a place that served grilled chicken wings, but before that was a thing. Which it should be more of a thing. More places serve them today than back then but fried wings still rule the day. We’re cool with that… we eat more than we should every year when dining out and catching a game or whatever. However, we’ve never once fried a chicken wing at home (yes, we know how to fry). At home we grill them, usually after some sort of time soaking in a marinade. Every time we make Easy Grilled Chicken Wings, no matter how we flavor them, we ask the same question over and over… why aren’t these more popular in restaurants? Probably because dropping a basket into hot oil is simpler on a large scale than taking up valuable grill space for wings. All good, we get it. Fried when out, grilled when home and you’re about to find out why!
Preparation: Easy Grilled Chicken Wings
First, pick your marinade. We love teriyaki or traditional buffalo. The teriyaki hearkens back to the aforementioned restaurant where we’d take these delicious guys and counter the teriyaki with some habanero hot sauce (another thing that wasn’t common back then). Yes, as a child 😀
We also love to marinate overnight in whichever concoction. Flavor for days. Also, if your wings are whole just grab some kitchen shears and go to work. You know those things in your knife block that you probably use as scissors? Yeah, those are poultry shears. Dust them off and put them to use. Another tip, save the wing tips – the part that isn’t a “drum” or “flapper” – because they can help make some wonderful chicken stock.
Once ready to cook, pull the wings from the marinade and preheat the grill to medium heat. Place the wings on the grill. Cook for 10 – 15 minutes. Rotate and cook for another 10 – 15 minutes. The wings should have grill marks.
Remove the wings from the grill (often we set the ones done early on a higher rack) and let cool/rest for 3 – 5 minutes. Toss with additional sauce if desired. Plate with carrots and/or celery and ranch or this fabulous Simple Homemade Bleu Cheese Dressing.

Equipment

Ingredients
- 2 dozen Chicken Wings Cut down if not pre-cut
- 1 container Buffalo Sauce User's choice. Used as marinade.
Instructions
- Marinate wings for 24 hours in desired sauce. We recommend buffalo or teriyaki as wonderful grill recipes.
- Preheat a grill to medium heat. Place wings on grill. Cook for 10 – 15 minutes. Rotate and cook for another 10 – 15 minutes. Wings should have grill marks.
- Remove from grill (often we set the ones done early on a higher rack) and let cool/rest for 3 – 5 minutes.
- Toss with sauce if desired. Plate with carrots and/or celery and ranch or bleu cheese.
